‍ ‍Our Educational Philosophy

At Christos Academy, our educational philosophy is rooted in a classical understanding of learning and a distinctly Christian worldview. Our goal is not simply to transfer information, but to cultivate wisdom, character, and purpose in every student. We call our model the Kingdom Approach. At the heart of this approach is the belief that each student is uniquely created in the image of God and entrusted with individual gifts, abilities, and potential. Rather than expecting every child to fit into a rigid academic system, we seek to shape the educational experience around the student, helping each one grow according to their God-given design.

Mastery-Based Learning
At Christos Academy, students progress after demonstrating mastery of a subject. This approach encourages deeper understanding, builds confidence, and helps prevent the learning gaps that often develop in traditional pace-based classrooms.

Classical Framework
Our school follows the classical stages of learning: Lower Grammar, Upper Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. These stages align with the natural intellectual development of students while also providing a thoughtful social framework for growth and maturity.

Thoughtful Integration of Technology
We use modern educational technology to support differentiated instruction and individualized pacing. Technology is not the foundation of learning, but a tool that can strengthen comprehension, analysis, and synthesis when used wisely and under the guidance of skilled teachers.

Personal Education Plan (PEP)
Beginning in the Upper Grammar stage, each student receives a Personal Education Plan designed around their individual abilities, progress, and academic needs. These plans are informed by tools such as the Iowa Assessments, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), and ongoing classroom performance. This allows us to create personalized learning pathways and differentiated graduation tracks that reflect each student’s strengths.

Expert Instruction
While technology can support personalized learning, professional teachers remain central to the educational process. Our educators determine when computer-based instruction is helpful and when traditional teaching methods are most effective. In the early years, from kindergarten through third grade, students learn primarily in a traditional, low-screen environment that emphasizes hands-on learning, direct instruction, and educational games.

A Christ-Centered Foundation
At the center of all we do is a worldview grounded in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This foundation shapes not only what we teach, but how we teach. Our desire is to guide students toward academic excellence, moral clarity, and faithful Christian living.

Micro Schooling versus Home Schooling

Dear Families,

I want to take a moment to share part of my story with you, because I believe it reflects the heart behind what we are building at Christos Academy.‍ ‍

Before serving as CFO of Christos Academy, I spent ten years homeschooling my seven children, from 1997 to 2007. Those years were deeply meaningful to me, but I will also say honestly that they were not easy. There were many moments when I felt overwhelmed by the responsibility. I was not formally trained as a teacher, and at times I questioned whether I was doing enough or doing it well.

We pressed through those challenges together, and I am incredibly grateful that we did. Each of my children has gone on to pursue higher education and build successful lives. Even so, looking back, I often think about how helpful it would have been to have more support, more structure, and more guidance along the way.

That experience is one of the reasons I am so passionate about micro schooling.

Micro schooling is not meant to replace the heart of homeschooling, but to strengthen it. Instead of parents carrying the entire weight of their child’s education alone, families become part of a supportive learning community. At Christos Academy, students are placed in small, local pods where they can learn alongside others while still receiving a personalized education.

What makes this model different is the balance it creates. As a parent, you are no longer expected to do everything on your own. We come alongside you by providing curriculum, academic oversight, mentoring, testing, and enrichment opportunities such as field trips. You are supported every step of the way.

At the same time, your role as a parent is still deeply valued and protected. You have the freedom to choose how involved you want to be in your child’s education. Some parents take on a more active teaching role, while others partner with us and focus more on guiding and supporting their child at home.

For those who do feel called to teach, we provide a pathway. Parents can serve as learning coaches or teachers of record and may even be compensated for their time. We also offer a classical teacher certification program so that you feel equipped, confident, and supported in that role.

My heart in all of this is simple. I want parents to experience the beauty of being involved in their child’s education without feeling alone or overwhelmed. I want families to have access to a model that is both flexible and structured, personal and supported.

Our goal at Christos Academy is to make high quality, Christ-centered education accessible and sustainable for every family. We believe education works best when parents are empowered, children are known, and community is present.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. It is truly an honor to walk alongside families in this journey.

With care,
Kimi Bliss
